Amp’d Mobile and HurryDate married.

July 11th, 2005

From Yahoo:

Amp’d Mobile, the first fully integrated 3G mobile entertainment company for youth/young adults, and HurryDate, a leader in the social phenomenon “speed dating” and ever-popular online dating, today announced a three-year exclusive partnership to connect Amp’d Mobile’s 3G EV-DO service to HurryDate’s party and online dating community. The deal is poised to become the first mobile dating service to be connected to an online community as well as the premiere of video profiles featured on mobile handsets when Amp’d launches later this year.

I like the approach that Amp’d is taking on this, partnering with an already established online dating service rather than going through the hardships of forming their own.

So what’s going to be offered to users?

Amp’d Mobile users will be able to access HurryDate’s very popular online dating services - browsing profiles, sending virtual “Drinks” and emailing possible dates - from their mobile phones. They’ll also be able to register to be alerted for parties in their area and sign up for upcoming events. HurryDate’s parties allow singles to go on up to 20 real, live dates in one night.

Amp’d Mobile has not launched yet, will keep you updated on any news with the company.

Mobile Dating huge in Japan

July 11th, 2005

So I was just reading an old article on mobile dating, and came across a really good quote:

‘Deaikei’, or mobile device-centered dating services, have been around in Japan for more than 3 years – all of the major Japanese mobile service providers have branded dating sites, and they actually outrank online dating sites in popularity.

That’s pretty impressive that it’s outranking online dating sites. I’m not suprised either, the Japanese are usually the first to try new technologies.

Match.com Mobile Launches

July 10th, 2005

This is sort of old news, but I figure I will mention it here anyways. Match.com launched it’s ‘Match.com Mobile’ service a little while ago. It’s a seperate service from Match.com, and thus requires a seperate subscription. I think this is the wrong way to go, i’d much rather see a mobile dating service be intergrated into their current system. People aren’t going to want to pay for two seperate subscriptions.

So what does Match.com Mobile offer? Check out this cheezy movie. From what I gather, it’s very similiar to Match.com (and any other online dating service for that matter). You create a profile, and can browse and message other Match Mobile users through your phone. If you are a Match.com member, you can apparently transfer your account over easily.

I really can’t understand why they did not just integrate this mobile service into their existing online one. What’s the point in signing up for this service when it’s basically the same as the online version, except there are probably 95% less people using it?

Although it’s a step in the right direction for mobile dating, it looks like Match.com Mobile offers nothing incredibly goundbreaking.

For those who want to give it a try, it’s going to cost you ~$5/m, and is available through Cingular Wireless Internet Express users, Nextel Online® Wireless Web Access users and Sprint users in the United States.

Welcome to the Mobile Dating Blog

July 9th, 2005

Hi folks, and thanks for checking out the ‘Mobile Dating’ blog. So what is mobile dating? It’s any form of dating involving a mobile device (ie - cell-phone). This is a pretty open-ended description I realize, but that’s what is so great about it. Mobile dating is anything from viewing dating profiles via your cell to broadcasting to all the singles in the room that you are also single. As mobile devices become more and more powerful, I can see mobile dating services really taking off. And this is what I look forward to blogging about! The Internet has done wonders for dating, but I think it will become stale. I think in the next few years, online dating services that don’t incorporate some type of mobile dating service will bust like the 2000 bubble.

So whats going to be covered in this blog? I’m going to provide all the latest news on mobile dating, reviews of the current services out there, and also speculate about what services we can see in the future.
